We had some friends ask us if we would ever consider hosting a Korean exchange student for a couple of months. We were nervous to do it, but we were very excited. When Zurang came, it was like she had been a part of our family for a long time. She was here to teach at Desert Hills jr high. She is an english major in Korea. It was the best thing our family has ever done. She is so sweet, smart, beautiful and we learned so much from her, I am sure way more than she learned from us.
We have very few pictures with her because she did not like her picture taken. The night she was leaving we took a bunch so we would remember her (like we could forget :))
I really miss her. She spoke English so well and I really enjoyed having someone there to talk to and to run errands with.
Grant absolutely loved Zurang and she absolutely loved him!
So sweet!!
She really did like Neal a lot, but this was the fiftieth picture we had taken so she looks a little uncomfortable. haha :) She really understood Neal's sarcastic ways. She has a brother that is very similar to Neal.
Zurang is the sister Aliya never had! They had a great time together and shared the love of crafts and all things creative!
Zurang with the wild ones! She only has one older brother so I am sure these kids were a shock to her. She just thought everything they did was so funny and cool.
Zurang gave this cute floppy ear bunny to the kids, but Grant pretty much took over it and he won't let anyone else touch it. I think it reminds him of Zurang and he misses her a lot!
Every Sunday we would make a Korean dish. So tasty! This night we did Sushi. No raw fish for us, but we did veggies and ham and egg!
Trying to wrap the sushi. Zurang had never really cooked before she came here. She was one of the few that still lived at home and so her Mom would cook for her or she ate out! She learned a lot and I learned a lot. It was a fun thing we did together!
This is Zurang's friend Gin, which we got pretty close to while they were here. He is such a great guy. Gin and Zurang taught at the same school and actually went to the same college in Pusan. They are actually a couple now back in Korea. We couldn't be happier to hear that! We are fully expecting to be invited to the wedding in the future. :)
Gin brought over a calligraphy set and taught the kids to write their names and some common phrases in Korean.
Aliya having a turn with the Sushi!
Gin.
After this night, his teacher told me that Landon was writing his name in Korean and English on all his papers. So cute!
We golfed!!
One of the crafty things Aliya and Zurang did together! They did so many different origami shapes.
Aliya had an art project for school and Zurang helped her.
We all joined in with the clay.
We miss her lots and wonder everyday how she is doing. We keep in contact through email and even get to skype with her every once in a while. She is super busy with school and we are so proud of her. We really want to save save save and maybe one day visit Zurang in Korea! She is forever a part of our family and we will never forget her!
